5 Signs You Need a New Air Conditioner

  1. Constant Breakdowns: Repair costs can quickly add up, and you may find yourself spending more on repairs than you would on a new AC system.
  2. Old Age: Most air conditioning units have a lifespan of about 10-15 years. If your AC system is approaching or exceeding this age, it is likely time to start considering a replacement.
  3. High Energy Bills: If you’ve noticed a significant increase in your energy bills, it could be a sign that your AC system is no longer operating efficiently.
  4. Lack of Comfort: If your air conditioner is struggling to keep your home cool and comfortable, it may be time for an upgrade.
  5. Noisy Operation: Excessive noise coming from your air conditioner can indicate underlying problems with the system..

What Should I Consider When Replacing My AC?

  • SEER Rating: The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) rating measures the cooling efficiency of an AC system. Higher SEER ratings indicate better energy efficiency and lower operating costs.
  • AC System Size: It is important to choose an AC system that is properly sized for your home. An undersized unit will struggle to cool your space, while an oversized unit can lead to excessive energy consumption and poor humidity control.
  • Installation Cost: Consider the upfront cost of the AC system and installation when making your decision. While it may be tempting to opt for a cheaper unit, investing in a higher-quality system can save you money in the long run through improved energy efficiency and fewer repairs.
  • Warranty: Look for an AC system that comes with a comprehensive warranty. This will provide you with peace of mind knowing that you are protected against any potential issues with your new unit.

Should I Repair or Replace My Air Conditioner?

If your air conditioner is experiencing frequent breakdowns, is more than 10-15 years old, or is no longer providing the comfort and efficiency you desire, it may be time to consider a replacement. While repairs can be a temporary solution, they can quickly add up in cost, and you may find yourself facing more issues in the future.

By investing in a new AC system, you can enjoy improved energy efficiency, lower repair costs, and a more comfortable home.

Lower Your Cooling Bill with a High-Efficiency AC

One of the key benefits of replacing your AC unit is the potential for significant energy savings. Older air conditioners are typically less energy-efficient, leading to higher cooling costs. By upgrading to a high-efficiency AC system, you can lower your energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint.

High-efficiency AC units are designed to use less energy while still providing optimal cooling performance. They often come with advanced features such as variable-speed compressors and programmable thermostats, allowing you to customize your cooling preferences and maximize energy savings.

Frequently Asked Questions About Air Conditioners

Can I replace my AC unit myself? Replacing an AC unit is a complex task that requires specialized knowledge and tools. It is always recommended to hire a professional HVAC technician for AC replacement to ensure proper installation and avoid any potential safety hazards.

How often should I replace my air conditioner? On average, air conditioners have a lifespan of 10-15 years. However, this can vary depending on factors such as usage, maintenance, and the quality of the unit. It is best to consult with a professional technician to assess the condition of your AC system and determine if a replacement is necessary.

What is the difference between SEER and EER? SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures the cooling efficiency of an AC system over an entire cooling season, while EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures the cooling efficiency at a specific outdoor temperature. Both ratings indicate the energy efficiency of the unit, with higher numbers indicating better efficiency.

How often should I have my AC system serviced? It is recommended to have your AC system serviced at least once a year. Regular maintenance can help identify and address any potential issues before they become major problems, ensuring that your AC system continues to work properly and efficiently.

What are the benefits of a maintenance plan for my AC system? A maintenance plan provides regular maintenance and tune-ups for your AC system. This helps to extend its lifespan, improve energy efficiency, and reduce the likelihood of breakdowns. With a maintenance plan, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your AC system is in good hands.

Leon Joseph came to do our scheduled annual HVAC service on 4/12/25. He provided a full check/maintenance on all the components and replaced our filter. Excellent work and personality. Thanks, Leon!
I contacted them on a Saturday to schedule a backflow test, and they were able to come by that Monday. They provided an ETA but were actually about 2 hours early, which worked great for me. Alex was great and got the job done in about 15 minutes. The whole thing was hassle-free.
Norm did a great job! He was here on time and was knowledgeable about our water heater. He pointed out that we had the wrong size pressure tank on our water heater which was 80 gallon. The water heater was installed by Central Oregon Heating and Cooling 2 years ago and the the pressure tank was undersized which may have cause the bladder to blow. This happened right after it was serviced last year. Since it was the wrong one installed originally, Norm did the right thing and replaced with a new one that will handle the 80 gallon hot water heater under warranty. We greatly appreciate his customer service at no cost to us.
Jeremy was very knowledgeable, helpful and polite.
Dan and Blake were thorough, timely, great communication. Highly recommend!
Leon did an excellent job making sure my fireplace was ready for the winter months. He cleaned everything thoroughly and even refreshed the interior and screen paint. He is an affable fellow, experienced and enjoys his work. I highly recommend him.

Martin was a professional, very knowledgeable of What he was doing very good company to work with. Thanks.
I had an excellent experience with Central Oregon Heating and Cooling! My AC unit suddenly stopped working, and after placing a service call, I received a call back from Martin within just 10 minutes. Even more impressive—he was at my house within 20 minutes!

Martin was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to thoroughly explain what he was doing and why, which I really appreciated. He made sure everything was running properly before he left and patiently answered all of my questions. He even went the extra mile to ensure I’d receive a follow-up call from the plumbing manager for a separate issue I had mentioned.

This level of service is hard to find these days. I’m very happy with the experience and would highly recommend Central Oregon Heating and Cooling—especially Martin—for anyone needing fast, reliable, and top-notch service!
