5 Signs You Need Furnace Repair

  1. Unusual Noises: If your furnace is making strange noises such as banging, rattling, or squealing, it’s a clear indication that something is amiss. These noises could be due to loose components, worn-out belts, or other mechanical problems that require immediate attention.
  2. Inconsistent Heating: If you notice hot and cold spots throughout your home or if some rooms are not being heated adequately, it’s a sign that your furnace is not distributing heat evenly. This could be caused by a faulty blower motor or a malfunctioning thermostat.
  3. Increased Energy Bills: If your energy bills have suddenly spiked without any changes in your heating habits, it could be a sign of an inefficient furnace. A malfunctioning furnace will have to work harder to keep your home warm, resulting in higher energy consumption and increased costs.
  4. Frequent Cycling: If your furnace is frequently turning on and off, it could be a sign of an underlying issue. This constant cycling not only affects the comfort of your home but also puts unnecessary strain on your furnace, leading to potential breakdowns.
  5. Yellow Pilot Light: The pilot light on your furnace should always burn blue. If you notice a yellow or flickering flame, it indicates a problem with the combustion process. This could be due to a gas leak or incomplete combustion, both of which require immediate attention from a professional.

Frequently Asked Questions About Furnaces

How often should I have my furnace inspected?

It is recommended to have your furnace inspected at least once a year, ideally before the start of the heating season. Regular inspections help prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.

What should I do if my furnace stops working?

If your furnace stops working, check if the circuit breaker or fuse controlling the furnace is tripped or blown. If that’s not the issue, it’s best to call a professional furnace repair service to diagnose and fix the problem.

How long do furnaces typically last?

The average lifespan of a furnace is around 15 to 20 years. However, proper maintenance and regular repairs can extend its lifespan. If your furnace is older and experiencing frequent issues, it may be time to consider a replacement.

Can I repair my furnace on my own?

Furnaces are complex systems, and attempting to repair them without proper knowledge and tools can be dangerous. It is always recommended to leave furnace repairs to trained professionals who have the expertise to handle the job safely and effectively.

What are some common signs of a carbon monoxide leak from a furnace?

Signs of a carbon monoxide leak include a yellow or flickering pilot light, soot around the furnace, excessive condensation on windows, and a strong, unusual odor. If you suspect a carbon monoxide leak, evacuate your home immediately and call emergency services.

We’ve had a lot of issues with our unit, not COHC’s fault, just an unhappy little machine. Anyways. Called and had a message sent to the Bend team. They reached out very quickly, and sent someone the same day (this is mid snow-crazy so I was impressed.) Mike was excellent, didn’t knock because we have a sign out front asking visitors not to, was fabulous at explaining the answers to our concerns, very polite, and so glad he came!

We’ve had issues in the past with parts needing ordered and some breakdown in communication, but COHC made sure to rectify that and took good care of us. Great service, won’t hesitate to call with future concerns!
Mike did a great job explaining why I need a new heat pump!
Richard was great! Very informative and fixed our issue. Thank you so much!
Beyond the call of duty. Came to my house at 9:00 pm to fix my furnace. Leon was very professional and pleasant.
First minor problem with my hot water heater on the coldest day of the year and they were here in less than 30 min on a Friday night and fixed it quickly. Great service, thanks so much!
Ken Clark came out to help me on the split system on my job trailer, he was extremely professional a knowledgeable. It was fixed in minutes.
Martin and Benjamin went above and beyond for me today. The snow slowed me down and they were very patient and courteous although it took me longer than planned to get home. They serviced my heater and sealed up leaking air around my vent which was causing some weird problems with my floor. I am very thankful for them for all of their help. Great price too by the way. Five stars
Rusty came and did the fine tuning at the end of the install. He was very pleasant and helpful.😄
Richard was very knowledgeable, had a strong grasp of the system and how it worked. Got our system working again by cleaning the heat sensor, and letting us know we should replace the sensor soon. Appreciate his work!
Great service, very informative and knowledgeable. Central Oregon heating has been my go to for the last 20 years
Very helpful and Martin made sure I got a fair price for my fireplace repair. Thank you!
Damon, came a and fixed a plugged oil filter, he did a great job! We were very happy with the whole experience. Thank-you
Mike did a great job when he fixed my furnace. Very personable guy
Leon and Benjamin were great technicians. They were polite and informative. They really went into detail about our heat pump so we could make an informative decision.
Mike was great. Thorough and took the time to explain what was happening and my options.
We had an early morning emergency call! Alex and Brian were early, did as we asked to review this issue then waited patiently for us to arrive late. Once we'd decide to replace both water heaters at our new house, they got stuck in and we're done is record time. All the time they were friendly, respectful, helpful and chatty. I can not recommend their services highly enough to anyone in need of professional plumbers! We'll definitely be using their services in the future.
