5 Signs You Need a New Air Conditioner

  1. Frequent Breakdowns: If your air conditioner is constantly breaking down and requiring repairs, it may be time for a new unit. A reliable AC system should work properly without the need for frequent repairs.
  2. Old Age: Air conditioning units have a lifespan of around 10-15 years. If your AC system is reaching or exceeding this age, it’s a good idea to start considering a replacement.
  3. Increasing Energy Bills: If your energy bills have been steadily increasing despite no significant changes in your energy usage, it could be a sign that your AC system is becoming less efficient and needs to be replaced.
  4. Lack of Cooling Power: If your air conditioner is struggling to cool your space or if certain areas of your home or business are consistently hotter than others, it may be time for a more powerful AC system.
  5. Expensive Repairs: If the cost of repairing your AC system is getting close to or exceeding the cost of a new unit, it’s usually more cost-effective to invest in a replacement rather than continuing to pour money into repairs.

What Should I Consider When Replacing My AC?

When it comes to replacing your air conditioner, there are several factors to consider. Here are four key points to keep in mind:

  1. SEER Rating: The SEER rating, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, measures the energy efficiency of an AC system. A higher SEER rating means greater energy efficiency and lower energy bills.
  2. Size and Capacity: It’s important to choose an AC system that is appropriately sized for your space. A system that is too small will struggle to cool your space, while a system that is too large will cycle on and off frequently, wasting energy.
  3. Installation: Proper AC installation is crucial for optimal performance. Make sure to choose a reputable HVAC company with experienced technicians who will install your new system correctly.
  4. Budget: Consider your budget when choosing a new AC system. While it’s important to invest in a high-quality unit, you also want to find a system that fits within your financial means.

Should I Repair or Replace My Air Conditioner?

Consider the age of your AC system. If it’s nearing the end of its lifespan, investing in repairs may not be the most cost-effective solution. Repairs can also add up over time, especially if your system requires frequent fixes.

If your current AC system is not energy efficient, replacing it with a newer, high-efficiency model can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. Newer systems are designed to be more energy-efficient, which can result in significant savings over time.

Lower Your Cooling Bill with a High-Efficiency AC

Investing in a high-efficiency AC system can help you significantly lower your cooling bills. Here’s why:

High-efficiency AC systems are designed to use less energy while still providing optimal cooling performance. They achieve this through advanced technology and improved components that allow the system to operate more efficiently.

By upgrading to a high-efficiency AC system, you can reduce your energy consumption and, as a result, lower your monthly cooling bills. Over time, the savings can add up, making it a worthwhile investment.

How often should I replace my air conditioner?

On average, air conditioners have a lifespan of around 10-15 years. However, this can vary depending on factors such as usage, maintenance, and quality of the unit.

Can I install an AC system myself?

It is highly recommended to hire a professional HVAC company for AC installation. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and to ensure the warranty remains valid.

How can I improve the energy efficiency of my AC system?

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning or replacing air filters, keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris, and scheduling professional tune-ups, can help improve the energy efficiency of your AC system.

We've had a lot of bad experiences with contractors since moving to Bend, but these guys have never let us down. I'm just mad we didn't find them first to save us from the shenanigans of other companies. They have helped with several projects at our home, are incredibly fast to respond, and everyone we've had here has been awesome to work with. Funny, kind, and respectful as well as knowledgeable in their fields. Every contracting company should strive to operate like these guys. Would give 6 stars if it was possible.

Edit to add: I really wish I could give these guys a 5 star review for every time they come out to our house! Today was an emergency call for a contractor putting some nails through our power lines. They had our issue resolved same day.
I am a repeat customer for Central Oregon Heating & Cooling. Not only do I use them annually for maintenance, I also had them install a more efficient unit & install a new vent to eliminate a dead zone in my home a year ago.
When I decided to install a mini-split system at my office, I didn’t even shop around. I just called COHV & had them come out and discuss options. I know what their service is like, what the quality of their work is like, & what their pricing is like. I didn’t need to waste my time shopping.
I made an appointment to have COHV come out and give me an estimate. Alex P arrived on time and was very thorough. He listened to my wish list & my concerns. He addressed each of them & the estimated he gave me was easy to understand. We quickly came to an agreement on the price & installation schedule. A week later, the installers arrived as scheduled.
The installers, Dustin P & Dominic U also discussed the installation with me thoroughly. They too heard my wish list and my concerns. During this conversation they came up with a way to install the system that I liked much better than my original idea. I’m so glad I listened to their professional experience/recommendations & trusted them. They figure out a way to do the installation such that it would look cleaner & work more efficiently. It turned out perfectly.
The COHV in-house electrician Jared W had to run power to the unit & install an outlet near the unit. Jared was equally thorough & communicative. He asked if I had any concerns & addressed them perfectly. He even ran the wire around the outer perimeter of my attic space so I could install insulation without having to work around his wiring. That is a rare level of attention to detail but seems to be the norm with COHV.
This rare attention to detail & level of excellence in customer service has been my experience with Central Oregon Heating & Cooling, repeatedly. Beyond that, the equipment they use seems to work flawlessly as stated. When it comes to COHV & the quality of their staff including the office staff, sorry but I forgot your name. Zack Maybe? Anyway, I have zero complaints and have only had flawless, wonderful experiences.
Once again, thanks to everyone at COHV.
Had a great experience with tech Matthew today. We had a circuit board failure due to condisation dripping onto the electrical which caused a short. Matt was able to replace the board (2) and repaired the sensors and their placement which cause the issue. He thoroughly tested the system and explained his finding to me and my wife. I got the sense that he completely understood the failure issues and did what he could to mitigate any issues in the future. The system was under warranty so there was no cost to the repair. I always feel COH&C train their technicians well.
Travis was amazing. Did a great job. We are very happy with him.
Just a simple service providing peace of mind regarding my propane Vermont heater. He was very courteous, pleasant, and professional
Leon and Benjamin were great!
Jeremy repaired our blocked fire pit. Saved us thousands for a new one.
The two technicians that came out to service our mini splits were very helpful and informative. Gave a level of confidence that will have me calling them again and we signed a service agreement based on our experience.
Benjamin and Leon came out to service my heating and cooling system. They let me know when they were arriving and arrived on time. Both were courteous and professional. Taking time to answer questions and explain things. I felt that I was in good hands. They also went next door to my moms. She spoke very highly of them when they left. She is 92. She said they were sooooo nice:)
Mike came and was great. He serviced our Heating and Air conditioning. I will definitely use him specifically again. 5 stars all around. Very friendly.
Buddy explain and show us what needed to done. Super helpful and friendly.
